Living History & Country Farm

Waterloo Village is a beautifully restored historic canal town secluded within Allamuchy Mountain State Park. The town itself was once an important stop on the old Morris Canal, and today the property is a living history museum featuring a working grist mill, general store, blacksmith shop, church, and several historic houses. Since 2015 Waterloo has operated a country farm raising fresh vegetables, orchard fruit, chickens, and pigs following the principles of sustainable, local organic farming. As a premier event venue, Waterloo offers one of the region’s most distinctive settings for weddings, corporate events, and special celebrations.

Rustic historic ambiance and newly refurbished event spaces blend with the lush outdoor lawns, landscaping, fruit orchards, and organic farm ambiance to make Waterloo Village shine as a truly memorable setting for weddings large and small.

Safeguarding a New Jersey Historic Treasure

Waterloo Village was once busy transportation hub centered on Morris Canal. With the expansion of railroads in the late nineteenth century, the canal became obsolete and the once-bustling village fell into disuse and disrepair. In the 1970s, the State of New Jersey began a decades-long project to reconstruct and revitalize many of the town’s historic buildings and create a living history museum visited by thousands of people a year.

Currently stewarded by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Parks and Forestry, Waterloo is open to the public as part of Allamuchy Mountain State Park and home to many events and educational programs that teach and inform visitors about the past.
