The Green Valleys Watershed Association headquartered at Welkinweir leads a diverse mix of nonprofits, educational institutions, state agencies, and community members in efforts to keep local watersheds healthy and thriving. The woodlands, meadows, wetlands, ponds, streams, and gardens all make Welkinweir a wonderful living laboratory for observing nature and learning about sustainable water and land stewardship.

GVWA’s many educational programs help get young people (our nation’s future leaders!) into the outdoors to appreciate the natural world, including summer nature day camps, Scout merit badge activities, after-school environmental clubs, “creek snorkels” (yes, kids face-down in creeks learning what’s what down there!) and even an “Owl Prowl” featuring real owls and other raptors!
