A Lavish Country Estate

Bellevue Hall in Wilmington is a former estate of the wealthy du Pont family. The mansion itself dates from 1855, and the du Ponts expanded the property in various ways over the years, notably extending the grounds and adding barns and stables for their well-known equestrian pursuits. Delaware’s Parks & Rec Division eventually acquired the estate and has integrated it into the state’s public parks system, restoring and managing the historic buildings and outdoor spaces to preserve the grand historic charm while adding the amenities of a modern event facility.

Bellevue Hall’s gorgeous gardens and luxurious architectural spaces make it the perfect place to stage a wedding in lavish country estate style.

Stewards of Historic Preservation for Modern Recreation

Delaware’s Division of Parks and Recreation manages 17 state parks and nature preserves across 26,000 acres, with a mission to protect natural resources, preserve historical sites, and provide public recreational and educational opportunities. The Division actively acquires additional land to adapt for public use, while ensuring the preservation of the unique natural and cultural heritage these properties represent.

Bellevue Hall in Wilmington, DE, originally built in 1855 as "Woolton Hall," was the former estate of the du Pont family, founders of the DuPont chemical corporation. Purchased by William du Pont, Sr. in 1893, the estate was gradually expanded and renovated over the years by both him and his son, William du Pont, Jr. to accommodate the family’s equestrian and other pursuits. But by 1965 the estate had fallen into disuse and neglect, and in 1976 the State of Delaware took ownership with the intention of incorporating the property into its growing portfolio of state parks. Today, Bellevue Hall, as the mansion is now known, stands as a monument to Delaware's history, offering a unique setting for weddings, private events, and historical tours.
